New vid - "Holiday" - Battlestar Galactica

Vid: Holiday
Edit: Sache8
Music: Green Day
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica
Clips Used/Spoilers: Miniseries and Season 1
Character/Pairing: All characters, ensemble vid.
Warning: PG-13 for brief strong language.
Summary: "This is the dawning of the rest of our lives." An overview of Season 1 of BSG

Links: Quicktime - 22.6 MB.

Vidder's Notes: I haven't been this thrilled to be done with a vid since Murder, Murder. But basically this is one of my older BSG vid bunnies (which explains why it's only Season 1, and I think really the song fits that arc rather splendidly). As [info]qwi_xux remarked, I seem to be dusting off quite a few oldbies lately. As always, it didn't turn out exactly how I always pictured, but I'm pretty happy with it nonetheless. Also, I went through quite a lot of trouble to use larger, high quality source files, making this vid probably the best quality final that I've ever had.

Acknowledgements: Many, many thanks to [info]bookwormprinces for her ongoing support and enthusiasm for this vid, [info]womp_rat208 for being a sounding board last Saturday and helping me finally get past my 1:30 block (where I was stuck for about six weeks), and to [info]beccatoria for helping me get my hands on a good rip of the miniseries, thereby saving my sanity in the very beginning.

And now I am going to watch another disk of season two of Eureka which will help to further my present good mood. Feedback is chocolate!!

*flails*

That. Was. AWESOME. I seriously watched it with my mouth hanging open and this silly grin on my face. (Yes, it is possible to do both at once. :p)

Seriously, the pace was amazing, and you chose SO many clips I would never have thought of using, and the way you put them together with other clips was...gah. Just fantabulous. I also love how you brought it full circle, from zooming in to zooming out with the same scene at beginning and end.

*WILD APPLAUSE*

Heee! Thank you very much. *bows*

(the zoom in and out is actually the beginning and end of episode 7. I can't take full credit for the idea, since both the pro editors and marimba have done that trick, hehe)

ZOMG IT'S SO FRAKKING AWESOME! :D:D Alas, I know I'm too tired right now to give you the detailed feedback you deserve, so I promise I'll get to it tomorrow. For now just know that I think it kicks some major booty. ;)

Haha. So one of the first things I noticed while watching this vid was, "Wow, everybody's aged a lot by season four!" ;) I shall try to do the rest of my notes in bullet-point format. ;)

- Out of all your little drumbeat cut-betweens(you know what I mean, lol), I think Starbuck grinning with her cards cut with her punching Tigh is my favorite. Not that the timing was off on any of the others, I just like the contrast within that one the best. :D (The one with Roslin facepalming and being sworn in is really awesome, too.)

- I love, love, love that you focus on Caprica Six and Gaius and then Helo and Sharon for each of the "hollow lies." And then use Adama's "We're going to find Earth" speech for the last one. It's so perfect.

- I definitely like that you switched to Galactica jumping away and the telescoping effect of all the people for "on holidaaaaaaaaaay". It flows wonderfully with the music. :D

- *giggles* Of course Zarek's the protester who crossed the line. *glee*

- I know I said it before, but I'll say it again. I love all the "expiring" clocks and then the cut to the ticking second hand right on the beat. It looks great. :D

- You kept up the flow and pace very nicely during the musical interlude with action-y clips and I especially like the bit where Tigh drops his head in defeat and then Starbuck mirrors the pose. :D

- "The representative from California has the floor." *giggles* Classic.

- I loved the way you kept up the motion with the "Just 'cause"s and the "hey hey!"s with the room spinning, the camera circling Baltar and Six, and Boomer shooting Adama. It's probably my favorite sequence of the vid. :D

- I have to agree with [info]qwi_xux, using the same clip for the opening and ending was genius. It ties everything up so nicely.

Excellent vid, dear. I can't wait for "Sex and Candy". ;)

That was AMAZING! I was captivated the whole way through, both by the incredible editing and the way the lyrics fit (in a way I hadn't thought of before, though I've heard the song many times).

Especially with the "hear the sound of the falling rain" with Starbuck, which calls back the "nothing but the rain" exchanges; also, the "kill the fags that don't agree" line with airlocking Leoben.

Hee! Thank you. I was really hoping someone would enjoy the rain lyric. I did. *GG* And the other one was a pretty harsh lyric, but more or less a straightforward choice, clip-wise. Really love the feedback, thanks again. :-)

Missed the Leoben lyric, but the rain one was GREAT.

AWESOME!

As usual, I had coherent things to say, and then I saw the part where you switched between Six and Gaius kissing, Adama getting shot, and all the pilots dying RIGHT into Lee punching somebody and YAYAYAYAYAY!

Also, the end was brilliant.

I will watch it many more times, and then say something that is better constructed. Suffice to say: excellent editing and clip choice as always, and a great use of the song.

I seriously loved it!
You gave a new and fresh perspective on Season 1 and THAT alone is pretty amazing ;)Perfect mix of funny moments and inherent horror wrapped up in this interesting song. And the editing is perfect - loved how you used all camera movements and zoomings. There are too many great moments to count (and I think others already mentioned most of them :) )
Anyway - it's definitely a saver :D

Thanks for your feedback! I find it especially interesting that you referred to it as a fresh perspective, since I guess to me this is just my default perspective. LOL It's always fun to realize how many different ways people perceive the same work of art. Anyway, thanks again. :-)

:) What I meant was that S1 was done a LOT and some (epic)scenes are used over and over again but you used many clips I've forgotten exist. Also, the emotion this vid carries makes it stand out....well, at least for me. Anyway,...loved your default perspective ;)

Dude, this is great! :D

It's a brilliant song choice - bouncy but dark, which is an odd combination but perfect for season one in light of all the other seasons. I can never decide if season one is the darkest season because it's so unremittingly realistic or the lightest in retrospect because everyone was still so young and (comparatively) idealistic.

Anyway, you make great use of the rhythm here and I especially enjoyed the quick cuts on the drum rolls. You're right, it really is a great song for the first season arc.

And the quality looks fantastic, in case you were worried. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I'm so happy you liked it. I hoped I didn't seem like I was pushing, I just kind of wanted you to know which vid was driving me crazy that day I was asking for the miniseries. :-) Fun thoughts in the dichotomy of Season 1. LOL

Thanks for watching! *G*

I love this, I started grinning with Stsrbuck at "falling rain" and did not stop. It cannot be overstated how awesome this song is for season 1. :)

My favorite moments:

The sequence from about :59-1:03 when the ship jumps to go "on holiday"

-about 2:00-2:10 when the weariness starts setting in for everyone.

I absolutely adore how the "representative from California" becomes the Cylon POV section. The whole sequence with Doral is especially fantastic, lyrics and everything just works for me there.

-so many little choices throughout, your clip selection and transitions are just excellent.

Such a great job.
